Aleppo soap from the Zanabili family: a story that connects Syria and Asturias

28 octubre 2026

Aleppo soap is much more than a craft product: it is a family heritage, a symbol of Syrian culture and a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. The Zanabili family has been dedicated to making it for more than a century, preserving a traditional recipe that combines olive oil and laurel berry oil.

In a report published by La Voz de Asturias on March 6, 2022, we learn the story of Amer and Taher Zanabili, two brothers living in Oviedo who decided to continue the family legacy and help make this traditional soap known in Spain and other countries.

The Zanabili story is also that of a family that has managed to keep its roots despite difficulties. After the destruction of their factory in Aleppo during the war, the family business managed to be reborn in Turkey, from where the soap continues its journey to various points of sale.

Today, from Asturias, the Zanabili brothers continue working to preserve this craft tradition and bring the public closer to a part of Syria's cultural richness. A project that unites history, identity and commitment to a legacy that deserves to stay alive.
